Tooth-Colored Fillings Restore Your Smile

Are you suffering from tooth decay? Have you considered tooth-colored fillings? Here in Grand Rapids, MI, our dentist, Dr. Robert Dame, can help you get the smile you want.

More about tooth-colored fillings

There are many advantages to tooth-colored fillings. Made of a natural-appearing and durable material called composite resin, these fillings only require one dental appointment to install, and generally take 30 minutes to an hour to complete. The composite used is made of plastic resin and finely ground glass-like particles, which prevents teeth from turning gray over time. Tooth-colored fillings look natural and strengthen teeth, so applying too much pressure on teeth isn't something to worry about. The fillings also fix an array of issues, including chips, cracks, fractures, decay, and discolored, stained, or short teeth.

The installation process

In order to prepare your teeth for the composite, your dentist will clean your teeth to ensure they're plaque-free and apply a cleaning gel on the dental surface to open up the pores. Next, your dentist rinses the cleaner off and places the composite resin and hardens it in place with a curing light. This process is repeated if necessary and then your dentist will shape your tooth so that it looks like the rest of your teeth.

It's not difficult to maintain or care for your fillings. Dental bondings require the same care as all teeth. Brush your teeth twice a day using a soft-bristled brush, and floss at least once before going to sleep at night. Make sure you floss and brush under gums and at the edges of gums if you can't reach under them. This will help keep your teeth healthy and avoid new cavities.
