What are Dental Veneers?
A veneer is a thin coating on a surface - and that’s exactly what dental veneers are. In the veneer process, a paper-thin porcelain covering is custom-made to fit your tooth (or multiple teeth), and applied over the front-facing surface. This durable material is stain resistant, and can be shaped to correct gaps, tooth shape, alignment, and color. They are designed on a patient-specific basis to match and blend with the rest of the mouth and fit your personal desires. Note that unlike crowns or fillings, veneers are not meant to repair damaged teeth- they are primarily an aesthetic solution
What is the Application Procedure?
Thanks to ever-improving technology, the procedure is simpler than ever. In many cases now, the veneers can be applied directly onto the tooth surface. Sometimes, a thin layer of enamel must be removed and ‘sanded’ lightly to ensure a firm adhesion. Molds are then taken from the teeth and sent to the lab for custom manufacturing. You will receive temporary veneers during this period between appointments.
When the veneers are ready, it will take a second appointment to cement them to the teeth. A follow-up appointment may be required to ensure the veneers are setting appropriately and that you are satisfied.
